Anti-terrorism laws will continue to be used in Sri Lanka until new laws are introduced, Minister Bimal Ratnayake told Parliament.
He said that while the policy of the new Government is not to agree to some of these laws, as a Government they need to continue using them carefully until new laws are introduced.
The Minister asserted that as a Government they need to enforce existing laws.
He said this in response to a privilege issue raised by MP S. Shritharan who claimed that there was an attempt to prevent him from travelling to India recently to attend an event.
The MP said that immigration officers had attempted to block him from travelling to India over claims he was being investigated for terrorism links.
Minister Bimal Ratnayake apologized over the incident and assured an investigation.
