The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) today informed Colombo Additional Magistrate Pasan Amarasena that investigations are underway to arrest a suspect who is in hiding in connection with the possession of a T-56 firearm without a valid license.
CID officers revealed that the suspect, identified as M.K. Amila Chandrananda, is also known as -Narahenpita Amila’.
According to a complaint received by the Acting Inspector General of Police, a T-56 assault rifle allegedly belonging to the suspect, was recovered from a shop in the Homagama area during an investigation.
CID officials further informed court that the suspect is also facing trial before the Homagama Magistrate’s Court over an incident involving the theft of firearms from the armory of the Minneriya Army Training Centre. The theft is believed to have been carried out by an organized criminal and terrorist group.
After considering the submissions made by the CID officers, the Magistrate ordered that the suspect be arrested and produced before court.
