The Jaffna Magistrate’s Court today allowed a peaceful protest to be held tomorrow by the unemployed graduates of the Northern Province during the visit of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to Jaffna.
The President is scheduled to participate in the Jaffna District Coordination Committee (DCC) meeting and attend several other public programms tomorrow.
However, the Jaffna Police named five individuals, including Jaffna MP Archuna Ramanathan, who should be prevented from protesting anywhere within the Jaffna Police Division.
Following this petition, they were ordered to appear before the Jaffna Magistrate’s Court for a hearing.
Senior Advocate Visvalingam Manivannan represented the Northern Province Unemployed Graduates and requested the magistrate to allow them to gather peacefully and voice their demand for employment opportunities.
After the hearing, the court granted permission for a peaceful protest along the roadsides but prohibited entry into high-security zones.
