Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe has promised the formation of a new United National Party (UNP) with new faces.
Speaking at an event to meet the new local council members of the UNP, Wickremesinghe said that a committee formed by the UNP will select the new members to be given more responsibilities in the party.
He said that following the recently concluded Local Government elections there was now a need to form a new UNP.
The UNP Leader said that the results from the election showed that new faces are now needed in the party.
Wickremesinghe recalled that there were times in the past when the UNP underwent several changes.
He said that there needs to be new thinking in the UNP as the party looks to the future.
