If the fuel shortage continues, the government must take immediate action to ensure sufficient diesel supply from the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) depots to maintain smooth public transportation, the Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association (LPBOA) said.
LPBOA Chairman Gemunu Wijerathne told the Daily Mirror that the country’s transport system must not be crippled, as it directly impacts the economy.
“During the COVID-19 pandemic, the previous government introduced a system for buses to obtain diesel from SLTB depots. They also implemented a QR code system to distribute fuel in an organized manner,” he said.
“Although the situation is not critical yet, the government must take immediate measures to prevent it from worsening,” Wijerathne added.
